Born on the island of Oahu, Nani grew up in Palolo Valley near Honolulu, Hawaii where she first learned how to sing, dance and play the guitar, drums, ukulele and other wind instruments. She is the second eldest of seven sisters and one step brother.
Nani comes from a family of musicians, dance instructors and song writers. Her grandfather Samuel Kalani Kaeo, was an actor and songwriter back in the 60's. Some of his songs are still sung to this day. Her grandmother and mother were teachers of ancient Hawaiian (ha'a) hula. Her father was a perfectionist and encouraged Nani, to do her best in all she did in life. It was his strength that she draws upon and her mother's love that she holds on to.
In 1975, Nani moved to Nanakuli and got involved with teaching cultural dance to students from Nanakuli. Music was always around her. While living in Nanakuli, Nani got involved with the Catholic Charismatic music ministry which was directed by her Uncle Bernard Kaeo. She has traveled all over Oahu and the outer islands with the music ministry.
Nani, graduated from McKinley High School and immediately after graduation went to the University of Hawaii and studied ancient Hawaiian Culture and Communications. Nani, and her husband have traveled the world teaching Polynesian dance and song for over 30 years. Her inspiration comes from all facets of life, through her family, friends, and everyday living. Her goal is to share her music with people everywhere who are willing to listen and feel her simplicity and heart.
